Kenyan President William Ruto announced today the dissolution of his Cabinet, citing the need for a more effective and broad-based government.

During a press briefing, President Ruto stated, “Upon reflection and listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have today in line with the powers given to me decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the CSs and AG except the PCS and CS for Foreign Affairs. The office of the DP is not affected in any way.”

This significant decision follows weeks of intense anti-government protests, primarily led by the youth, often referred to as Gen Z.

The demonstrations have been marked by widespread discontent over economic issues and governance. President Ruto acknowledged the pressing need to address these concerns, emphasizing his commitment to engaging in extensive consultations across various sectors and political formations.

“I will immediately engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations and other Kenyans both in public and private with the aim of setting up a broad-based government that will assist me in accelerating and expediting the necessary urgent and irreversible implementation of the program that we have to deal with the burden of debt,” he added.
