In his address, President Ramaphosa conveyed sincere thanks to South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir, First Vice President Riek Machar, and other key signatories for their detailed briefing on the advancements within the framework of the Revitalised Agreement. “We are encouraged that the parties remain committed to the Revitalised Agreement as the most viable vehicle to address the root causes of the conflict and building sustainable peace in South Sudan,” stated Ramaphosa.

The South African leader’s visit underscored the importance of international solidarity and regional cooperation in supporting South Sudan’s journey towards peace. He acknowledged the pivotal roles played by regional organizations such as the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the African Union Mission, and the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), commending them for their insightful assessments which have greatly contributed to the peace process.

As South Sudan approaches the end of its transitional period, the anticipation surrounding the upcoming general elections is palpable. These elections are seen as a critical step towards solidifying the nation’s democratic processes. “The people of South Sudan are eagerly waiting for the general elections which will bring the end of the transitional period. These elections will be a watershed moment in the country’s transition to democracy,” remarked President Ramaphosa.
