President Museveni Strengthens Ties with UAE’s Sheikh Zayed, Invites Him For NAM

November 14, 2023

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni expressed his pleasure at a fruitful meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the royal palace. The discussions, held in Abu Dhabi, centered around strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations and exploring opportunities in investment, renewable energy, and sustainability.

President Museveni took to Twitter to share the positive outcome of the meeting, stating, "I was pleased to meet His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at his palace this evening. Our discussions focused on enhanced relations between our two countries, exploring investment opportunities, renewable energy, and sustainability."

The talks highlighted the commitment of both leaders to deepen economic ties and cooperation in areas that contribute to sustainable development. The leaders discussed potential investment opportunities that could foster economic growth and mutual prosperity for Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In particular, the conversation touched upon the importance of renewable energy and sustainability in the context of addressing global challenges. Both nations acknowledged the significance of adopting eco-friendly practices and technologies to combat climate change and promote a greener future.

President Museveni also extended an invitation to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit scheduled for January 2024 in Uganda. The NAM summit serves as a platform for countries to engage in diplomatic dialogue and cooperation, emphasizing the principles of non-alignment, peace, and mutual respect.

In response, His Highness graciously accepted the invitation, signaling a commitment to fostering diplomatic ties not only through bilateral discussions but also through multilateral forums like the NAM summit. The participation of the UAE's leadership in the upcoming summit is expected to further strengthen the global unity and collaboration advocated by the Non-Aligned Movement.

The meeting between President Museveni and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed reflects the shared vision of both nations to build a resilient and sustainable future through diplomatic, economic, and environmental cooperation. As the two countries look forward to the NAM summit in January 2024, the world will be watching as they take steps towards a more interconnected and harmonious international community.
