Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni reiterated his call for Europe to recognize the importance of global affluence in fostering mutual prosperity during a meeting with a delegation from Italy led by H.E Stefano Gatti, the Director General of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, at Entebbe yesterday.
President Museveni emphasized the necessity for political actors in Europe to understand and appreciate the benefits of equitable economic partnerships, stressing the importance of cooperation in achieving shared prosperity.
In his address, President Museveni encouraged more Italian investors to set up factories in Uganda, particularly in the coffee industry, to add value to the country’s produce. Additionally, he urged investments in the pathogenic sector to reduce Uganda’s dependency on imported pharmaceuticals.
“I thank the Prime Minister of Italy, Her Excellency Giorgia Meloni, for her quick response to my idea of sending a delegation here to identify investment opportunities in the country,” President Museveni expressed his gratitude for Italy’s swift action in fostering economic collaboration between the two nations.
The meeting underscored Uganda’s commitment to enhancing its economic development through strategic partnerships with European countries like Italy, with a focus on value addition and self-sufficiency in critical sectors such as pharmaceuticals.
President Museveni’s remarks highlight Uganda’s eagerness to leverage foreign investment to bolster its economic growth while emphasizing the importance of equitable partnerships in achieving global prosperity.
