The Secretary-General of Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, on Tuesday morning hosted the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Uganda, Her Excellency Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, for a cordial meeting at the NRM headquarters located at Plot 10, Kyadondo Road.

According to a statement from the party, the two discussed bilateral issues highlighting the commitment of both parties to strengthening cooperation between Uganda and Ethiopia across key sectors, including; politics, trade, and cultural exchange.
“We cherish the treasured historical ties and mutual relations between the people of Ethiopia and Uganda,” said Rt. Hon. Todwong during the meeting.

He further emphasized that both Ethiopia and Uganda share a proud legacy of advocating for African self-determination in the face of Western colonial domination, and continue to work together towards the prosperity of the continent.
Ambassador Etsegenet and Todwong also discussed areas of mutual cooperation between the NRM and Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party (PP) and how to consolidate existing ties.

Their meeting comes on the heels on a successful Joint Ministerial Commission between Uganda and Ethiopia in Addis Ababa that culminated into the signing of a series of MoUs.

It also followed Ethiopia’s successful hosting of the East Africa Arts and Cultural Festival where Uganda had a delegation participating and this publication offered extensive coverage.

Todwong’s meeting with the Ethiopian envoy, was attended by the party’s Director for External Affairs, Maj. (Rtd) Awich Pollar; Director of Communication, Hon. Emmanuel Dombo; and Director for Youth and Institutions, Maj. (Rtd) Okwir Rabwoni.

Ambassador Etsegenet was accompanied by the head of political affairs at the Ethiopian Embassy, Mr Robel Admassu.
