Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, hosting a delegation of African parliamentarians at State House Entebbe, emphasized the imperative for unity amongst African nations to counteract external exploitation.
The meeting marked the conclusion of the second African Inter-Parliamentary Conference, where discussions revolved around bolstering African values and safeguarding sovereignty.
Addressing the assembly, President Museveni outlined two pivotal challenges hindering Africa’s progress. Firstly, he decried the greed and self-serving actions of foreign powers in their engagements with the continent. He highlighted instances where external entities prioritize their interests over Africa’s development, exacerbating economic disparities and perpetuating dependence.
“Foreign powers exhibit greed and selfishness in their dealings with our continent,” remarked President Museveni. “We must remain vigilant against their exploitative tactics and assert our sovereignty.”
The President also highlighted Africa’s internal weaknesses, which render the continent susceptible to exploitation. He stressed the urgency of addressing issues such as internal greed and disunity, which undermine Africa’s ability to negotiate on equal terms and protect its resources.
“Our own weaknesses leave us vulnerable to exploitation by those who seek to take advantage of us,” President Museveni cautioned. “It’s crucial to confront internal challenges head-on and foster unity among African nations to fortify our position on the global stage.”
The conference attendees echoed President Museveni’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for collective action and solidarity among African nations to safeguard their interests and promote sustainable development.
