Museveni, Tanzania Vice President Hold Talks on Oil Pipeline, Trade
November 5, 2026
Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has held talks with Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius John Ndejembi, on economic integration and infrastructure development, with particular emphasis on the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Cultural Leaders Conference, where Ndejembi delivered a special message from Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
In a statement following the meeting, Museveni said the discussions focused on strengthening economic cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania, expanding trade and developing infrastructure to connect the two economies.
“Our prosperity depends on working together, expanding trade and developing infrastructure that connects our economies,” Museveni said.
The two countries are key partners in the development of EACOP, a major regional infrastructure project designed to transport Uganda’s crude oil from the oilfields in the Albertine Graben to the Tanzanian port of Tanga for export.
The pipeline is expected to strengthen bilateral economic ties while creating opportunities for investment, trade and regional cooperation.
Museveni has repeatedly emphasised the importance of regional integration and infrastructure development in promoting economic transformation and shared prosperity across East Africa.
