President Yoweri Museveni has expressed openness to a potential partnership with AC-Planta, a Japanese company specializing in Skeepon Technology. The announcement came following a meeting between President Museveni and a delegation from AC-Planta, led by their founding chairman, Dr. Kim Yong Myong.

During the meeting, President Museveni received the team from AC-Planta and discussed their interest in collaborating with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) to introduce innovative agricultural solutions in Uganda. AC-Planta proposed supplying products designed to enhance plant yield, as well as offering resistance to drought and diseases, thereby potentially revolutionizing agricultural practices in the country.

President Museveni expressed his enthusiasm for the proposed partnership, emphasizing the importance of adopting cutting-edge technologies to improve agricultural productivity and ensure food security in Uganda. He welcomed AC-Planta’s ideas and proposals, highlighting the potential benefits such collaboration could bring to the nation’s farmers and economy.

The Skeepon series is classified as an agricultural material under the category of “biostimulant” which is neither an “agricultural chemical” nor a “fertilizer.” Biostimulants are “a new technology that controls non-biological stress on plants to reduce damage caused by climatic and soil conditions” (Japan Biostimulant Council Website). Biostimulants are a new concept in Japan, but they are rapidly spreading, especially in Europe, as a way to use fewer pesticides and chemical fertilizers and to achieve a sustainable society.

AC-Planta’s expertise in Skeepon Technology offers promising opportunities for enhancing crop resilience and increasing yields, crucial factors in addressing Uganda’s agricultural challenges.
