Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday met with a delegation from EcoNetix at State House Entebbe to discuss Uganda’s opportunities in the carbon market.
The delegation was led by former Austrian Minister of Agriculture, Religion, and Tourism, Elisabeth Köstinger, alongside Ugandan Investment Advisor Olivia Mugabe Mitterer.
The team presented a partnership proposal from EcoNetix founders Jakob Zenz and Paul Nimmerfall, aimed at positioning Uganda as a leader in the global carbon market.

Reports say the talks also focused on leveraging Uganda’s vast natural resources to generate carbon credits, enhance environmental conservation efforts, and attract investment in sustainable development.
With increasing global emphasis on carbon trading and climate action, Uganda seeks to harness its forests, wetlands, and agricultural landscapes to tap into carbon financing. The engagement with EcoNetix aligns with the government’s strategy to promote green investments and reinforce Uganda’s role in climate mitigation initiatives.
President Museveni welcomed the proposal and emphasized Uganda’s commitment to sustainable development while exploring economic opportunities within the carbon market framework. The meeting marks another step toward integrating Uganda into the expanding global carbon trade.
Further discussions are expected to refine the partnership details and operationalize projects that will contribute to Uganda’s green economy.
