President Yoweri Museveni announced plans to ramp up the Uganda Airlines fleet, both for passenger and cargo aircraft.
The announcement came following a strategic meeting with a high-level delegation from Boeing, led by Mr. Kujit Ghata-Aura, the President of Boeing Africa, at State House Entebbe.
President Museveni expressed his optimism about the expansion of Uganda Airlines, emphasizing the need for a robust fleet to meet the growing demand for air travel and cargo transportation in the region.
“We have plans to increase the Uganda Airlines fleet for both cargo and passenger aircraft,” President Museveni stated. “On fleet maintenance, I welcome the idea of having some light maintenance here initially.”
The President also highlighted the importance of efficient maintenance services for sustaining the airline’s operations. He mentioned the possibility of leveraging existing capacity in neighboring countries like Ethiopia for maintenance services until Uganda’s fleet expands sufficiently to accommodate full maintenance operations domestically.
The collaboration with Boeing signifies a significant step forward in Uganda’s efforts to modernize its aviation infrastructure and enhance its connectivity with the global market. With Boeing’s expertise and support, Uganda aims to strengthen its position as a key player in Africa’s aviation industry.
