President Yoweri Museveni expressed deep sorrow over the death of Namibia’s President H.E. Geingob.
Museveni reminisced about their shared history working with SWAPO, the Namibian Liberation Movement, for the past 57 years.
The Ugandan leader reflected on his early interactions with SWAPO youth and the collective efforts in the fight against colonial oppression.
President Museveni highlighted his pivotal visit to Northern Mozambique in 1968, countering decampaigning efforts by the Portuguese Secret Police and South African Whites. He acknowledged the support received from Frelimo of Mozambique during Uganda’s struggle against Idi Amin.
Recalling Geingob’s role in the 1970s as the head of the Namibian Institute in Lusaka, Museveni praised the late president’s dedication to training Namibians in exile. The friendship between Uganda and Namibia strengthened over the years, with mutual support during Namibia’s path to independence in 1990.
Expressing gratitude for Namibia’s stability and acknowledging SWAPO’s role, President Museveni saluted Geingob’s significant contribution to the freedom of Namibia and Africa.
He extended heartfelt condolences to Geingob’s family and the people of Namibia, marking a poignant moment of remembrance for a leader whose legacy will be forever cherished.
