Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday met with a delegation from the European Union Mission in Uganda, led by H.E. Jan Sadek, the EU Ambassador to Uganda.
The high-level meeting focused on key regional security issues, including the situation in South Sudan and broader efforts to ensure peace and stability in the East African region.
During the engagement, President Museveni and Ambassador Sadek exchanged views on recent developments in South Sudan, including the implementation of the peace agreement and the challenges facing the transitional government. The President emphasized Uganda’s continued commitment to supporting peace initiatives in South Sudan and the region.
“We discussed a number of issues related to security in the region and the situation in South Sudan,” President Museveni said after the meeting.
Last week, President Museveni was in Juba as part of efforts calm tensions in the country where the First Vice President Riek Machar remains under house arrest.
Ambassador Sadek commended Uganda’s role as a key regional actor in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. He pledged the EU’s support for Uganda’s efforts, particularly through political dialogue, humanitarian aid, and development cooperation.
The meeting it is hoped also discussed the situation in Eastern DRC.
The EU and Uganda have maintained a strong partnership over the years, with the EU providing substantial support in governance, infrastructure development, health, and humanitarian interventions in conflict-affected areas.
