Museveni Given Top Continental Award for Leadership in Health Laboratory Advancements

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has been honored with the prestigious ASLM Champion Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to health laboratory advancements and diagnostic services across Africa.

The award, presented at the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) Special Convention on Diagnostics in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, was accepted on his behalf by Uganda’s Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Diana Atwine.

It recognises President Museveni’s role in establishing the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and his commitment to strengthening the continent’s pandemic preparedness and laboratory innovations.

Dr Atwine, speaking on behalf of President Museveni, remarked, “This award acknowledges his visionary leadership, which has positioned Uganda as a leader in health security and laboratory excellence across the continent.”

President Museveni’s contributions have helped Uganda become a continental leader in health security, especially in times of crisis.

From fortifying the country’s laboratory infrastructure to ensuring high standards in diagnostics, his dedication has transformed Uganda into a model for pandemic response and health resilience.
