On Wednesday, H.E. Mourad Amokrane, Ambassador-Designate of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Uganda, presented copies of his Letters of Credence to Hon. John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs. The formal ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscores the longstanding and cordial relations between Algeria and Uganda.

Mulimba extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Mourad, reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to strengthening the bilateral ties fostered over the years. He emphasized the mutual respect and cooperation characterizing the relationship between the two countries and expressed Uganda’s readiness to explore new avenues of collaboration in areas of mutual interest, specifically in the fields of science, technology transfer, and value addition in the coffee trade.

Hon. Mulimba also highlighted Uganda’s invitation to investors in value addition in the timber sector, noting the country’s shift from exporting raw timber to processing and manufacturing furniture. He stressed the need for joint partnerships in certification and standardization of goods and services, enabling Uganda to benefit from Algeria’s extensive cooperation frameworks with European countries and the Arab world. Additionally, he expressed appreciation for Algeria’s increased educational scholarship program and called for more science-related courses, particularly in medicine, engineering, and oil and gas, to address Uganda’s job-seeking labor force.

Ambassador Mourad conveyed greetings and well-wishes from the President and the people of Algeria. He expressed his eagerness to enhance cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral fields. He announced that Algerian diplomats and business persons no longer require visas to enter Uganda, and he called for further collaboration in the oil and gas sectors and the development of the agricultural value chain to enable both nations to compete globally. Both parties acknowledged the potential for increased partnership and pledged to work closely to realize these opportunities for the benefit of both countries.

Minister Mulimba assured H.E. Mourad Amokrane of the Ministry’s full support during his tenure and expressed optimism that his appointment would usher in a new chapter of robust and dynamic relations between Algeria and Uganda.
