Mercy Kanyesigye’s bid for the National FemaleYouth MP slot, continues to gain momentum. She has been intensifying her countrywide mobilization efforts aimed at galvanizing support among Uganda’s youth.

Over the past weeks, Kanyesigye has been traversing several regions, engaging with young people and youth leaders in a bid to build a strong grassroots movement ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Her recent stop in the Rwenzori Sub-Region drew enthusiastic support from youth groups who pledged their unwavering backing for her candidacy.

“We believe in her vision, her courage, and her track record of advocating for youth issues,” said one of the youth representatives in Rwenzori. “She speaks for us and understands the challenges we face—from unemployment to access to education and healthcare.”

Kanyesigye, pledged her commitment to independent and effective youth representation.

“Youth leadership must be rooted in action, policy influence, and integrity. I am here to be a voice, not an echo,” she said during the Rwenzori meeting.

With growing national visibility and a message focused on empowerment, participation, and policy reform, Kanyesigye is positioning herself as a frontrunner in the highly competitive race.

Currently serving as Secretary for Legal Affairs on the National Youth Council, Kanyesigye has carved out a reputation as a fierce advocate for youth autonomy, political participation, and social equity. Her campaign message, anchored in the themes of inclusion, skilling, mental health, and youth economic empowerment, is resonating deeply across regions.

As Uganda moves closer to the 2026 general elections, Kanyesigye’s rising profile is a reminder that youth politics is no longer about tokenism. With over 75% of Uganda’s population under 30, candidates like Mercy represent a shift—a new generation demanding space, accountability, and impact.
