Kenya Airways has confirmed the tragic death of an elderly passenger aboard Flight KQ003, which was en route from New York’s JFK Airport to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The incident occurred on the morning of April 11, 2025.
According to an official incident report released by the airline, the passenger experienced a sudden medical emergency mid-flight. At approximately 08:40 hours Nairobi Time, the cabin crew alerted the Kenya Airways Operations Control Centre after the individual collapsed.
Following international aviation medical protocols, the crew was assisted by three qualified medical professionals on board who immediately administered emergency procedures, utilizing onboard medical equipment in an attempt to stabilize the passenger.
The flight was diverted to Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Uganda to facilitate access to urgent medical care. However, despite sustained resuscitation efforts, the passenger was declared dead at 09:10 hours East Africa Time by the attending medical team, prior to landing.
Once the death was confirmed and in compliance with global aviation safety standards, the aircraft resumed its journey to Nairobi. It landed at 10:27 hours Nairobi Time, where it was received by Kenya Airways’ medical personnel, airport security, and relevant government authorities.
Kenya Airways is working closely with the deceased’s family, aviation regulators, and health authorities to provide the necessary support and determine the cause of death. The airline expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved and emphasized its commitment to ensuring privacy and dignity for all involved.
