The Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of the Buganda Kingdom, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, hosted the Turkish Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Mehmet Fatih, at the kingdom’s headquarters in Bulange, Mengo. This meeting marks the beginning of a promising collaboration between Buganda and Türkiye, highlighting mutual interests and opportunities for cooperation.
In a tweet following the meeting, Katikkiro Mayiga shared his reflections on the discussions, emphasizing the historical and cultural exchanges that took place.
“The Turkish Ambassador to Uganda H.E Mehmet Fatih has visited us today at the Kingdom headquarters Bulange – Mengo. We have shared about the history of Buganda, the formation of the country Uganda, and a lot about Turkey, because you always learn more when you meet people,” Mayiga said.
The Katikkiro also noted the significant presence of Turkish businesses operating in Uganda and the increasing number of Ugandans traveling to Turkey for various opportunities.
“We have quite a number of Turkish companies that work here in Uganda, and as well our people here travel to Turkey for various opportunities. This visit is the beginning of a strong collaboration which will benefit the Kingdom and Uganda at large,” he added.
Ambassador Fatih reciprocated the sentiment of goodwill and appreciation for the discussions held. He expressed his gratitude to the Katikkiro and highlighted the potential for strengthened cooperation between the two regions.
“I extend my sincere thanks to Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of the Kingdom of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, for the warm hospitality and the fruitful exchange of views on the opportunities of cooperation between Turkey and Uganda,” Fatih stated.
The meeting is seen as a key step in fostering deeper ties between Buganda and Turkey. It underscores the importance of diplomatic engagements in expanding economic, cultural, and educational exchanges. The collaboration is expected to bring numerous benefits to both the Kingdom of Buganda and Uganda as a whole, enhancing trade, investment, and cultural understanding.
