“The UPDF Leadership also reported on our support missions in the region,” President Museveni noted.
Uganda’s military operations extend beyond its borders, with significant deployments in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Somalia. In the DRC, UPDF troops are engaged in a mission to neutralize the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a militant group responsible for numerous attacks and atrocities in the region. This operation is part of Uganda’s broader strategy to stabilize the Great Lakes region and eliminate threats posed by extremist groups.
Additionally, Uganda is the largest contributor to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), formerly known as AMISOM. This mission is critical in combating the Al-Shabaab insurgency and supporting the Somali government in its efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability. Uganda’s commitment to this mission reflects its leadership role in regional security initiatives.
The meeting at State House Entebbe highlights President Museveni’s proactive approach to ensuring that Uganda remains secure while also playing a pivotal role in regional peacekeeping efforts. The UPDF’s involvement in these missions highlights Uganda’s strategic importance and its dedication to contributing to peace and stability across the region.
