Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has concluded his official visit to Kigali, marking a significant step toward strengthening Uganda-Rwanda relations.
Gen Kainerugaba arrived in Kigali on Thursday and held a private meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, a key engagement aimed at ensuring deeper cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations. Their discussions highlighted the commitment to consolidating military and diplomatic ties, reinforcing the direction of improved bilateral relations.
On Friday, Gen Kainerugaba delivered a lecture of opportunity at the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Senior Command and Staff College in Musanze, where he addressed senior officers from the RDF and allied forces. His lecture focused on the necessity of unity and collaboration among African militaries to effectively tackle shared security challenges and enhance regional stability.
As he returns, this visit is expected to elevate Uganda-Rwanda relations by strengthening military cooperation, building mutual trust, and encouraging open dialogue on regional security matters.
Strengthened defense ties will contribute to greater coordination in addressing cross-border threats and stability issues including regional issues. The engagement indicates a renewed commitment to diplomatic reconciliation, paving the way for broader economic and political collaboration.
As he departed, Gen Kainerugaba was seen off at Kigali International Airport by Rwanda’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Mubarakh Muganga, along with other RDF Generals, pointing to the cordial and cooperative nature of the visit.
