The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Chairman, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has named the administrators of his Shs1 billion MK Fund, a program aimed at supporting viable wealth creation projects across Uganda.
The fund, which focuses on commercial agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and services (including tourism and ICT), will be overseen by the following administrators:
-
Hon. Frank Tumwebaze
-
Mr. Edwin Karugire
-
Col. Muwumba
Gen Muhoozi will serve as Chairman of the fund, while the administrators are tasked with managing disbursements and producing annual accountability reports to ensure transparency and effective use of the resources.
On Sunday, Gen Muhoozi announced that he would be setting up a Shs1 billion wealth creation initiative, dubbed the MK Fund, aimed at supporting Ugandans with viable income-generating projects. The announcement, made via X (formerly Twitter), comes as part of his broader efforts to promote economic empowerment among youth and entrepreneurs while reinforcing Uganda’s national wealth creation agenda.
In his statement, Gen Muhoozi explained that the fund was initially set at Shs500 million but later increased to Shs1 billion, following what he described as a divine instruction from God.
As Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Gen Muhoozi has increasingly positioned himself as a youth-focused leader within the ruling NRM establishment. By targeting his digital followers—particularly on X—he is fostering engagement among digitally connected Ugandans, many of whom are young entrepreneurs and innovators.
The MK Fund also indicates a new era of digitally mediated political and economic engagement. By announcing the fund via social media and directly targeting his followers, Gen Muhoozi leverages digital platforms to mobilize youth, test policy reception, and increase visibility, both as a military leader and political figure.
Gen Muhoozi has further clarified that the administrators will soon provide guidance on how interested applicants can submit their proposals. He emphasized that the administrators will also outline the rules governing fund disbursements.
