First Lady Signs MoU with U.S. Institute, Affirming Ugandan Sovereignty and Women’s Health Initiatives

Uganda’s First Lady Maama Janet Museveni has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the Government of Uganda with the Institute for Women’s Health (IWH), a prominent health policy organization based in Washington, D.C.

The Institute for Women’s Health is dedicated to promoting the highest attainable health and well-being for women at every stage of their lives. The organization focuses on addressing critical women’s health issues through open dialogue, targeted action, and the formation of empowered alliances.

The primary aim of the MoU is to bolster cooperation between Ugandan institutions and IWH in the areas of public health and education. The agreement emphasizes collaborative efforts that will particularly benefit women, girls, and families.

The First Lady highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating, “This MoU is a testament to our commitment to improving the health and educational outcomes for women and girls in Uganda. By working together with IWH, we can tackle pressing health issues more effectively and empower our communities.”

The agreement also underscores Uganda’s sovereign right to independently determine its political, economic, social, and cultural systems, while upholding internationally recognized human rights to achieve its goals. This aspect of the MoU ensures that Uganda retains full control over its policies and initiatives, aligning them with national priorities and values.
