First Lady Announces Partnership with Saudi Fund to Boost Rural Water Supply

Uganda’s First Lady Janet Museveni has announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Uganda and the Saudi Fund for Development. This partnership aims to enhance the provision of safe water to rural areas using small, solar-powered water systems.

Under this MoU, 23 small-scale water supply systems will be constructed, each expected to serve at least 650 residents. This initiative will benefit approximately 15,000 people across various districts, including Agago, Pader, Kitgum, Amuria, Nwoya, Busia, Iganga, Kamuli, Jinja, Luuka, Serere, Kaberamaido, Mubende, Kayunga, Wakiso, Kakumiro, Mukono, Kalungu, Buvuma, Kyenjojo, Ntoroko, Kisoro, and Masindi.

“I warmly welcome the CEO of the Fund, Mr. Sultan Abdulrahman Al Marshad, and his delegation, including the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Uganda, H.E. Muhammad Bin Khalid Faloudah. I appreciate their presence and willingness to travel to Kyankwanzi,” stated Mrs. Museveni during the announcement.

The First Lady emphasized the importance of this collaboration, not only for its immediate impact on water provision but also for its potential to foster further infrastructural and educational partnerships.

“Moving forward, we should not only focus on infrastructural collaboration but also establish technical schools for training our trainers, as technical education is a major need,” she added.
