Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s detailed political roadmap for the 2024-2027 period has leaked, outlining a strategic plan leading up to the 2025/2026 general elections.

According to a document seen by this website, the roadmap, which was presented to the Central Executive Committee (CEC) on January 9, 2025, sets out a series of key activities and milestones aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process and mobilizing support for party candidates at all levels of government.

The NRM’s roadmap, spanning from January 2024 to August 2027, includes a wide range of activities, from the election of party structures and flagbearers to the launch of the 2026-2031 Kisanja Manifesto. The document also emphasizes the importance of voter education, continuous research, and the digitalization of the party’s membership register to enhance transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.

One of the key highlights of the roadmap is the election of party flagbearers for various positions, including presidential, parliamentary, and local government councils. The NRM Electoral Commission will oversee these elections, which are scheduled to take place from January 2025 through August 2025. The party has also outlined plans for extensive voter mobilization, particularly targeting the youth, to ensure a strong turnout during the national voter registration update and display period.

In addition to internal party elections, the NRM has set aside time for conflict resolution, including the handling of election petitions and tribunals, as well as possible re-runs of contested elections. The party has also planned a series of consultative meetings with stakeholders at the sub-regional level to discuss the forthcoming party primaries and ensure that all voices are heard in the lead-up to the general elections.

The NRM’s roadmap also includes the preparation and launch of the 2026-2031 Kisanja Manifesto, which will outline the party’s vision and policy priorities for the next electoral cycle. This manifesto is expected to be a key tool in mobilizing support for NRM candidates during the campaign period.

NRM’s political roadmap comes at a critical time as the country prepares for the 2025/2026 general elections. With a clear plan in place, the party aims to consolidate its position as a leading political force in Uganda and secure a strong mandate from the electorate in the upcoming polls.
