Independent legislator Hajji Abdu Katuntu has called on his supporters in Bugweri District to unite behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“Whoever believes in me as their captain, let us build a team to seek votes for President Museveni,” Katuntu declared, addressing thousands of NRM supporters gathered in Idudi Town Council on Saturday.
The rally was convened by Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, who also serves as the Second National Female Vice Chairperson of the NRM, as part of a grassroots mobilization drive to consolidate support for the ruling party in Busoga sub-region.
Speaker Among urged the people of Bugweri to remain steadfast in their support for the NRM, emphasizing that President Museveni’s leadership continues to guarantee peace, stability, and progress for Uganda.
Katuntu’s open endorsement of President Museveni marks a significant political gesture, given his background as a former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) stalwart under Dr. Kizza Besigye. His remarks were met with applause from the crowd, signaling growing unity among local leaders in the region toward the NRM cause.
