DR Congo President Tshisekedi Rules Out Talks With Rwanda “as long as it occupies our territory”

In a bold and resolute address before the diplomatic corps, President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) declared that there would be no room for dialogue with Rwanda as long as it continues to occupy any portion of the Congolese territory.

President Tshisekedi emphatically stated, “No dialogue can and will not be able to intervene with our aggressor as long as he occupies, whatever the extent, a portion of our territory.” The Head of State went on to assure the nation that the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) would remain committed, at any cost, in pursuit of the enemy.

Addressing the diplomatic corps, President Tshisekedi reiterated the country’s unwavering position on the aggression it faces in the East, emphasizing, “My government reiterates the non-negotiable nature of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DRC.”

President Tshisekedi launched an urgent appeal to the United Nations authorities, the African Union, and regional organizations, urging them to initiate targeted sanctions against both Rwandan officials and members of the M23 militia who are deemed to be violating the sovereignty of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The M23 rebel group, which has been accused of having ties to Rwanda, has been a source of ongoing tension in the region, exacerbating the already complex geopolitical landscape.

The President’s call for targeted sanctions reflects the gravity of the situation and the determination of the DRC government to protect its sovereignty.
