Muzungu Boda, a New Zealand-born social media sensation who until recently, was famous for his daring motorcycle stunts and light-hearted portrayal of Ugandan life, has been ‘removed’ from the country by Ugandan authorities for operating without a valid work permit.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the action, emphasizing adherence to immigration laws.
“Muzungu Boda was not deported in the conventional sense; he was removed for violating immigration laws,” stated Mudenyi Simon Peter, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“He was found running a charity organization without the necessary work permit, which warranted his organized removal.”
A Viral Star’s Journey in Uganda
Muzungu Boda, whose real name remains undisclosed, quickly rose to prominence on Ugandan social media platforms. Through his lifestyle vlogs, drifting stunts, and comedic skits, he became a household name, amassing a substantial following. His content, often showcasing Uganda’s vibrant culture, appealed to audiences both locally and globally.
However, his portrayal of Uganda was polarizing. While many fans applauded him for promoting the country’s unique lifestyle and traditions, others criticized his content as sensationalized and sometimes culturally insensitive.
Controversy and Charity Work
In addition to his social media activities, Muzungu Boda reportedly operated a charity organization in Uganda. The specifics of the charity’s operations remain unclear, but authorities revealed it was this venture that led to his legal troubles.
Under Ugandan law, foreign nationals are required to obtain a work permit to engage in employment or run organizations within the country. Failure to comply constitutes a breach of immigration regulations.
“The rules apply to everyone, regardless of their fame or popularity,” Mudenyi emphasized. “We encourage foreigners to comply with our laws to avoid such outcomes.”

Muzungu Boda’s deportation has ignited debate online. Supporters argue his activities boosted Uganda’s visibility internationally, while critics see his removal as necessary enforcement of the law.
