Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has been honored with the Africa Award for Good Governance by the Heritage Times of London.
The award was presented during a high-profile ceremony held at the luxurious Savoy Hotel in Marrakesh, Morocco, drawing dignitaries from across the African continent and Europe.
Kadaga, visibly humbled by the accolade, expressed her gratitude and reaffirmed her commitment to public service and democratic ideals.
“I am deeply humbled by this recognition. It is a testament to the years of service, dedication, and the values of transparency and inclusivity that I have strived to uphold throughout my political journey,” she said during her acceptance speech.
The Heritage Times of London, a UK-based publication that promotes African leadership and excellence, lauded Kadaga for her “trailblazing leadership, unyielding advocacy for women’s rights, and consistent contribution to regional integration and parliamentary democracy.”
The event in Marrakesh brought together notable African leaders, diplomats, scholars, and members of the international press, all celebrating milestones in governance, leadership, and continental progress.
On X she posted, “I dedicate this award to my electorate , Fida Uganda with whom we established the 1st legal aid service . To the MPs of the 7th, 8th 9th and 10th Parliament,
the CWP(Africa) and (International) and IPU where we broke barriers in Women’s Representation in decision making.”
Rebecca Kadaga is one of Uganda’s most prominent political figures, having served as the Speaker of Parliament for a decade—the first woman in the country’s history to hold that position. She is widely recognized for championing gender equity, legal reforms, and regional cooperation through the East African Community framework.

Political analysts have noted that such international recognition not only honors Kadaga’s personal achievements but also casts a positive spotlight on Uganda’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance institutions.
On Women’s Day last month, Kadaga was among women awarded by President Yoweri Museveni for her outstanding contribution to Uganda.
These awards will cement her place as an impactful leader as she seeks to retain her place as NRM National Vice Chairperson (female).
The Africa Award for Good Governance aims to celebrate exemplary leadership and inspire the next generation of African public servants to embrace integrity, accountability, and service to their people.
