Cuban VP Seals Bilateral Ties in Ethiopia, Explores Cooperative Avenues As He Ends Africa Tour

uba’s Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa concluded his tour across African nations with a pivotal meeting alongside Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia.

During their discussion, both sides expressed mutual interest in fostering collaboration across various sectors, including health, education, tourism, services, and agriculture. This collaborative sentiment was conveyed by Valdés, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party.

Valdés extended gratitude to Ethiopia for its consistent support on the global stage in the fight against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the US.

In response, Prime Minister Ali acknowledged Cuba’s support during challenging periods and affirmed Ethiopia’s enduring solidarity with Cuba, offering unwavering assistance as needed.

According to Cuban presidential sources, the Ethiopian Prime Minister expressed profound gratitude on behalf of his nation to the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

Cuba and Ethiopia share diplomatic relations dating back to the 1970s. Both nations have engaged in cooperation across various sectors, including health, education, and agriculture. Cuba has provided significant support to Ethiopia in areas such as healthcare by sending medical professionals and offering training programs.

Additionally, Ethiopia has expressed solidarity with Cuba on international platforms, particularly in condemning the US embargo against Cuba. Over the years, the two countries have emphasized mutual assistance and collaboration in different fields, fostering a longstanding diplomatic relationship.

The Cuban vice president and his delegation returned to Ethiopia on Wednesday, concluding their third official visit to the continent, held between November 18 and 19.

This African tour commenced on November 13 in Ghana, followed by visits to Guinea-Bissau. After the Ethiopian visit, the Cuban delegation proceeded to Rwanda as part of their itinerary.
