Those conversant with the nitty gritty of Buganda vis-a-vis national politics, say a visit to Bulange aka okikiika embuga, most certainly guarantees one a win.

This is a belief Louis Kamuli wore as he made the famous pilgrimage to Bulange on Monday where he met a host of Buganda Kingdom officials including Kamala byonna (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga.

On his visit, Kimuli who has promised to transform the lives of youths in the region, purchased a number of kits for the Kabaka Birthday Run in April, as a gesture of his commitment to Buganda region’s wellbeing.

The run is an annual event organised to celebrate the revered Buganda monarch Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. The kingdom usually attaches charitable causes to this run and proceeds of the run are offered to them.

When UG Diplomat spoke to Kimuli about his visit to Mengo, he said it is part of a strategy to reach out to higher offices and make the voice of the youths heard.

Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga (R) shares a light moment with Kimuli

“We want to ensure that young voices are heard at all levels of decision-making, championing policies that address their concerns in governance, health, and social development. Buganda is a key institution with programs for the youths. My job will be to ensure youths tap intonthe opportunities,” Kimuli said.

Those contesting against Kimuli will have an uphill task against the man whose political mantra is “the youths voice of choice,” as visit to Bulange puts him in pole position to clinch the coveted parliamentary seat in next year’s general election.

In his mega plans for the youth, Kimuli is also pushing for reforms that enhance access to quality education, vocational training, and technology-driven solutions to bridge the gap between academics and employability.

Political minders say Kimuli’s decision to unveil his candidature with a Mengo visit and the reception, serves as an endorsement.
