Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, held a significant meeting this afternoon with the Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, Etsegenet Bezabih, at the UPDF General Headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.
Ambassador Bezabih was accompanied by Mr. Robel Admassu, who handles political affairs at the embassy. The meeting focused on strengthening the military cooperation between Uganda and Ethiopia, reflecting the ongoing commitment of both nations to enhance regional security and bilateral relations.
During the discussions, Gen. Kainerugaba extended an official invitation to his Ethiopian counterpart, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces. This invitation, as confirmed by the CDF’s office, underscores Uganda’s proactive approach in fostering solid defense ties with Ethiopia, which are seen as pivotal amid the current regional security dynamics.
Gen Muhoozi’s invitation to Field Marshal Jula is part of a broader strategy to collaborate more closely on defense and security matters, which include joint training exercises, intelligence sharing, and capacity building initiatives. Both nations are keen on leveraging their partnership to address common challenges such as counter-terrorism and instability in the region.
