The British High Commissioner to Uganda, Kate Airey, has passionately urged Chevening Alumni in Uganda to take the lead in instigating transformative change within their respective fields of work and communities. Airey emphasized the pivotal role these individuals play in resolving issues impacting governance and service delivery across the country.
Speaking at a prestigious gathering of Chevening Alumni, Airey emphasized the significance of their roles as change-makers. She highlighted the need for innovative solutions and proactive engagement to address the challenges affecting governance structures and the quality of public services in Uganda.
The Chevening Scholarship, a prestigious UK government-funded program, has empowered numerous Ugandan professionals to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom. Upon returning home, these individuals constitute a network of skilled professionals committed to contributing to their country’s development.
Airey emphasized the need for the alumni to actively engage with local communities, leveraging their knowledge and skills to implement practical solutions. “Your collective efforts can significantly impact the lives of Ugandans by enhancing governance structures and ensuring better service delivery,” she added.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Airey assured the alumni of the British High Commission’s continuous support and collaboration. She encouraged them to foster partnerships and collaborations that transcend borders and disciplines, fostering a collaborative approach towards addressing societal issues.
