The U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa, DR Congo has announced a further reduction in its personnel, citing the deteriorating security situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The embassy is strongly advising all U.S. citizens currently in the country to leave immediately using commercial flights.
According to a statement released by the embassy, routine consular services, including visa interviews and assistance for U.S. citizens, have been suspended due to security concerns in Kinshasa. However, emergency support remains available through the Consular Section.
Urgent Advisory for U.S. Citizens
The embassy has urged American citizens to ensure their travel documents are in order and to have essential items packed in case of a rapid departure. While commercial flights are still operational from N’Djili International Airport, the embassy has advised travelers to monitor the situation closely.
The advisory also recommends that U.S. citizens take precautionary measures, including:
- Reviewing personal security plans
- Stocking up on food and water in case of prolonged home confinement
- Avoiding large gatherings and demonstrations
- Keeping a low profile and staying informed through local media
The embassy’s decision comes amid heightened tensions and growing concerns over stability in the capital.
