BREAKING: Museveni Arrives In Juba For Talks To Deescalate Tensions

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has arrived in South Sudan at the invitation of President Salva Kiir Mayardit for discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

His visit comes as South Sudan continues to grapple with political instability and security challenges. Tensions remain high following delays in the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, which was meant to end the long-standing conflict between President Kiir and First Vice President Riek Machar. Disagreements over governance, security arrangements, and electoral timelines have fueled uncertainty, raising concerns about renewed violence.

Machar remains under house arrest and Museveni’s visit is expected focus on deescalating tensions.

Uganda has played a key role in South Sudan’s peace efforts, previously deploying troops and supporting mediation under the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
