AU Commends Uganda’s Preparedness for 2025 Agric Summit

A delegation from the African Union Commission, led by the Secretary to the Commission, Ms. Dalitso Bonongwe, concluded their mission in Uganda on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The visit aimed to assess Uganda’s readiness to host the AU Extraordinary Summit on Agriculture (CAADP), scheduled for January 9-11, 2025, at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo.

The Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Summit is a key event for advancing agricultural development across the continent. The delegation inspected conference venues, accommodation facilities, medical services, and reviewed airport handling and immigration processes. Additionally, they engaged with Uganda’s Security and Publicity subcommittees to harmonize strategies for the summit’s successful execution.

Reflecting on the preparations, Ms. Bonongwe expressed her satisfaction:
“We are impressed by the host country’s early preparations and the significant progress made. A lot of effort has gone into ensuring the summit’s success.”

The Ugandan delegation, led by Permanent Secretary Maj. Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama and supported by Amb. Aisa Ismail, Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to hosting a seamless and impactful summit.

Maj. Gen. Kasura-Kyomukama emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring a smooth event, noting the success of previous high-profile gatherings, such as the NAM and G77+China Summits, held at the same venue almost a year ago.

The CAADP Summit is expected to bring together leaders and stakeholders from across Africa, further cementing Uganda’s role as a host for critical continental discussions.
