Association of retired foreign service officers launched with call for capacity building

The inauguration of the Association of Ugandan Retired Foreign Service Officers (AURFSO) marked a significant milestone in Uganda’s diplomatic landscape. The inaugural launch, presided over by Mr. Vincent Bagiire, the Permanent Secretary of Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was held at the prestigious Hotel Africana in Kampala.

AURFSO’s inception signifies a pivotal step towards fostering a professional human resource pool comprising retired Foreign Service Officers. The primary objective behind the association’s formation is to create a reservoir of seasoned expertise that can be leveraged for the capacity building of current Foreign Service Officers and other government officials.

During the momentous event, Mr. Vincent Bagiire underscored the critical role played by retired Foreign Service Officers in imparting invaluable knowledge, experiences, and insights to the younger generation. He emphasized the association’s potential to serve as a bridge between the past and present, ensuring a continuum of expertise in Uganda’s diplomatic endeavors.

 

The launch garnered distinguished guests, including the Cuban Ambassador to Uganda, Tania Perez Xiques, and the Deputy Head of EU in Uganda, alongside a host of other esteemed attendees. Their presence signified international support and recognition of the importance of AURFSO’s objectives in strengthening Uganda’s diplomatic corps.

The launch concluded with an air of enthusiasm and commitment to the association’s goals. The formation of AURFSO not only signifies a commitment to preserving and utilizing the expertise of retired Foreign Service Officers but also serves as a testament to Uganda’s dedication to maintaining excellence in its diplomatic endeavors.
