A fatal road crash in Kanungu District has claimed the life of an American tourist and left three others injured, including the driver.
According to a statement from the Uganda Police Force, the accident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. in Kakureiju village when a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number UAM 271U, lost control while navigating a sharp corner on a slope. The vehicle, which was carrying American tourists, failed to brake and rolled several times before plunging into Kyeshero Bridge.
The crash resulted in the death of Shuldman Harrison Evan, a 40-year-old resident of New York, USA. Three others sustained injuries and were rushed to Bwindi Hospital for treatment. The injured include:
- Zachary Avayou, 39, a resident of Pennsylvania, USA
- Jeremy Frederick Wright, 25, a resident of California, USA
- Alpha Dadaire, 33, the Ugandan driver and a resident of Wakiso District
The body of the deceased was transported to Bwindi Hospital for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the vehicle has been towed to Kihihi Police Station as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially on steep and winding roads, to prevent such tragic incidents.
