In response to the growing threat of terrorism in Uganda, the U.S. Embassy in Kampala and the British High Commission in Uganda have jointly issued alerts, urging individuals to exercise caution and reconsider their plans for attending large public gatherings, especially worship services, music festivals, and cultural events in the region.

The U.S. Embassy issued a statement highlighting the increased terrorist activity in Uganda, advising individuals to exercise an elevated degree of caution. They specifically recommended reconsidering attendance at upcoming large public gatherings in Kampala and Jinja. The advisory also extends to various locations in the country where people tend to congregate, such as hotels, malls, and marketplaces.

The British High Commission, in its advisory, explicitly advises against all but essential travel to Jinja Town. They cited a growing terror threat in Uganda, which includes the targeting of foreigners. The commission emphasized the need to avoid large gatherings, such as worship services, music festivals, and cultural events in Uganda.

Both alerts underline the potential risks that travelers and residents face in Uganda due to the escalating security concerns. The situation highlights the importance of staying informed and taking necessary precautions when visiting or residing in the region.

The warnings come amidst increasing tensions in Uganda, where security forces are actively engaged in countering terrorist activities. The U.S. Embassy and the British High Commission have advised citizens and visitors to remain vigilant, stay updated on local developments, and follow the guidance provided by local authorities and the embassies.

For those already present in Uganda, the embassies recommend registering with them or ensuring their whereabouts are known to the embassies to receive timely updates and assistance in case of emergencies.

It is important to note that these alerts are a response to the current security situation and the information available as of November 7, 2023. Travelers and residents are advised to follow these guidelines and stay in touch with the respective embassies for any further updates or changes in the situation.
