Agreement Signed for 7th Edition of Kampala Geopolitics Conference 2024

The 7th edition of the Kampala Geopolitics Conference (KGC) is set to take place in October 2024, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Residence of France in Uganda. The agreement was formalized on Wednesday morning by key stakeholders including the Embassy of France in Uganda, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), Makerere University, and Alliance Française Kampala.

KGC, an annual two-day academic event, has become a significant platform for discussing current geopolitical issues and trends. This year’s conference will be held from October 23rd to 24th at Makerere University, one of Uganda’s most prestigious academic institutions. The event will feature six roundtable discussions on global challenges such as security, regional dynamics, sustainable development, humanitarian affairs, and armed conflicts.

According to details of the agreement, a highlight of the event will be a photo exhibition focusing on gender issues, further emphasizing the conference’s commitment to inclusive dialogue.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Xavier Sticker, Ambassador of France to Uganda; Mr. Nils Wörmer, Director of the Regional Programme Security Dialogue for East Africa at KAS; Prof. Mukadasi Buyinza, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Makerere University; and Mr. Eric Touzé, Director of Alliance Française de Kampala.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Sticker praised the longstanding partnership that has successfully brought the KGC to its 7th edition. He stated, “This Memorandum marks the renewal of our commitment to the Kampala Geopolitics Conference, which we have jointly organized since 2018, with the objective of putting international debates on the African stage.”

He went on to highlight the significance of the conference in fostering important global discussions within Uganda, noting, “The Kampala Geopolitics Conference aims to bring together researchers, representatives of civil society, international organizations, and entrepreneurs to make their voices heard on the pressing issues facing both our societies and the international order.”

Emphasizing the broader impact of the event, Ambassador Sticker added, “The Embassy of France in Uganda is proud to promote these values of openness, tolerance, and dialogue, hand in hand with our Ugandan partners. This collaboration is a testament to the power of shared ideas and mutual respect in addressing global challenges.”

Prof. Mukadasi Buyinza of Makerere University echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of the conference in raising Uganda’s profile in the region and beyond. He affirmed that Makerere University is the ideal venue for such important discussions and expressed confidence in the continued success of the KGC.
