Land Forces Deputy Commander Gen Takirwa Dies After Stroke Complications

Kampala, Uganda – February 7, 2026: The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced with deep sorrow the death of Major General Francis Takirwa, Deputy Commander of the UPDF Land Forces, who passed away this morning at 6:00 a.m. at the UPDF National Referral Hospital, Mbuya.

According to the UPDF Acting Defence Public Information Officer, Col. Chris Magezi, Major General Takirwa had been battling complications from a stroke. He was initially admitted to Nakasero Hospital on December 9, 2025, before being referred to the UPDF hospital on Friday, February 6, 2026, for long-term care and management.

Until his illness, Major General Takirwa served at the UPDF Land Forces headquarters in Bombo, playing a key role in overseeing Uganda’s ground military operations.

The UPDF extended condolences to his family, relatives, and friends, noting that details of the burial arrangements will be communicated later.

Major General Takirwa’s passing marks a significant loss to the UPDF.
