Russia has donated two high-tech mobile laboratories to the country to aid in the management and research of infectious diseases.

The labs were handed over during the inaugural Africa/Russia scientific conference, a landmark event that brought together experts from 17 countries, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The conference, hosted in Kampala, centered on collaborative efforts to combat a range of infectious and parasitic diseases including Ebola, Cholera, Plague, Measles, HIV, Tuberculosis, and COVID-19. The donation of the mobile labs is seen as a pivotal development in strengthening Uganda’s public health infrastructure.

The mobile laboratories are equipped with advanced technology for detecting and analyzing a wide array of pathogens. This capability is critical in areas where access to fixed-site laboratories is limited or non-existent. The labs are also designed to operate under harsh conditions, providing reliable results even in remote and challenging environments.

Russian representatives at the conference highlighted the donation as part of a broader commitment to enhance scientific collaboration between Russia and African nations.

Discussions at the conference also addressed the need for increased international cooperation in health science, particularly in light of the ongoing global challenges posed by emerging infectious diseases. Experts emphasized the importance of building robust systems for disease surveillance and response, underpinned by strong local and international partnerships.
