Gomba District, Uganda – Today, Malaria Consortium, a global non-profit organization, took a significant step in enhancing community health structures by training Volunteer Health Teams (VHTs) on utilizing the Electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS).
This initiative, aimed at preventing and controlling prevalent diseases like malaria, received acclaim from Mr. Fred Mugera, Acting District Health Officer of Gomba.
Acknowledging the importance of organized community mobilization, Mr. Mugera expressed gratitude to Malaria Consortium for their support in operationalizing and strengthening the district’s health infrastructure.
The focus of the training included efficient utilization of eCHIS, a digitalized reporting tool designed to streamline health data collection.
Malaria Consortium, known for its mission to combat targeted diseases in Africa and Asia, has been actively supporting the Ministry of Health’s efforts in training VHTs.
The organization targets key health burdens such as malaria, pneumonia, diarrhoea, and neglected tropical diseases, contributing to improved child and maternal health.
Ms. Kahunzire Christine, Assistant District Health Officer for Maternal & Child Health, highlighted Malaria Consortium’s role in facilitating the transition of eCHIS gadgets from district stores to the final recipients.
The organization has been a consistent presence in Gomba District, focusing on sustaining VHTs in utilizing eCHIS for effective reporting.
Various training centers were established across the district, including Kanoni Umea Primary School, Kanoni Modern Primary School, Kyayi Community Unit, and Kabulasoke Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) for Kanoni Town Council, Kyegonza Subcounty, Kyayi Subcounty, and Kabulasoke Subcounty, respectively.
This marks a significant stride in scaling up eCHIS in Gomba District, ensuring that Community Health Workers are well-equipped to contribute to the region’s overall health improvement.
