The Prosperity Party led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has won another significant parliamentary majority

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s ruling party has secured a commanding victory in the country’s 7th General Election, earning a fresh five-year mandate to continue steering Africa’s second most populous nation through its reform and development agenda.

The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) officially announced the final results, confirming that the ruling Prosperity Party won 438 of the 501 seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives. The result gives the party an overwhelming parliamentary majority and the constitutional mandate to form the next government.

Results were officially announced by NEBE Deputy Chairperson Tesfaye Neway during a ceremony attended by Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie, NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu, leaders of political parties, representatives of civil society organizations, members of the diplomatic corps, international partners, and other invited guests.

The outcome has been widely interpreted as a strong endorsement of the reforms and development programmes undertaken by the government in recent years. Supporters of the ruling party say the victory reflects the confidence Ethiopian voters have placed in the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen economic growth, infrastructure development, national unity, and institutional reforms.

Reacting to the announcement, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda, Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, described the results as “a testament to the Ethiopian voters’ resilience in keeping the country’s ongoing reforms and development achievements.”

In a message shared on social media, the Ambassador noted that the National Election Board had released the overall results of the election, confirming the Prosperity Party’s landslide victory and renewed five-year mandate.

“The Prosperity Party secured a landslide victory, winning 438 seats in the House of People’s Representatives, and its five-year mandate was confirmed,” she stated, before congratulating the people and government of Ethiopia.

The election results are expected to provide political continuity as the government advances key national priorities, including economic transformation, industrialisation, infrastructure expansion, regional integration, and efforts to enhance Ethiopia’s role in continental affairs.

With the parliamentary majority secured, the ruling party is now set to form the next government and lead Ethiopia through the next chapter of its development agenda.

Beyond its parliamentary victory, the Prosperity Party also recorded strong performances in regional council elections, securing majorities in several regional states and further strengthening its political foothold across the country. The announcement marked the culmination of one of the largest electoral exercises in Ethiopia’s history, with more than 54 million citizens registered to vote and millions taking part in the nationwide polls, reflecting significant public engagement in shaping the country’s political future.
