As Uganda inches closer to the 2026 general elections, political maneuvers within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has intensified sources say, with top party figures quietly positioning themselves for a coveted seat on President Yoweri Museveni’s election taskforce.

Traditionally appointed ahead of every major election cycle, the NRM election taskforce is personally crafted by Museveni, who also serves as the party’s National Chairman.

The team, usually unveiled after the NRM Delegates Conference, plays a central role in designing, coordinating, and executing the President’s campaign strategy across the country.

“There’s quiet competition going on,” said a senior party official. “Being on the national taskforce is not only a mark of trust by the President but also a boost to one’s political profile.”

Sources believe the Office of the NRM National Chairman is one being considered to be part of the team.
