Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has been elected as the new Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), securing a decisive victory with 33 votes.

His election marks a new chapter for the AU Commission, as he takes over the leadership of the continental body responsible for driving Africa’s political and economic integration.

Youssouf, who has served as Djibouti’s top diplomat for over two decades, is expected to prioritize peace and security, regional cooperation, and economic transformation. His victory signals strong backing from AU member states, reflecting confidence in his diplomatic experience and vision for Africa’s future.

He succeeds Moussa Faki and will lead the AU Commission at a time when Africa faces multiple challenges, including security threats, economic pressures, and efforts to strengthen continental unity.
