Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has today signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to supply its locally manufactured alcoholic beverages to Uganda’s missions abroad.

The agreement is part of the government’s broader agenda to drive socio-economic transformation by boosting local production and promoting the “Buy Uganda, Build Uganda” (BUBU) strategy through economic and commercial diplomacy.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Kampala, UBL Managing Director Mr. Andrew Kilonzo hailed the partnership as a significant step in aligning public and private sector efforts to expand the footprint of Ugandan brands globally.

“This is a great opportunity for us as a brewery to exhibit our rich, authentic Ugandan brands on an international scale,” said Kilonzo. “It brings mutual economic benefit to Uganda Breweries and the Government while promoting Uganda’s trade, industry, hospitality, and tourism sectors.”

Founded in 1946, Uganda Breweries Limited is the country’s leading premium alcoholic beverage company, known for iconic brands like Uganda Waragi and Bell Lager. It is a subsidiary of East African Breweries Limited (EABL) and majority-owned by global beverage giant Diageo

Under the agreement, UBL will provide designated product samples on a quarterly basis for use in diplomatic and stakeholder engagements. The brewery will also have the opportunity to brand and showcase its products at official events both at Ugandan missions abroad and at the Ministry’s headquarters in Kampala.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, underscored the role of the Ministry in promoting Uganda’s export-led growth strategy.

“This MoU is a key component of our Economic and Commercial Diplomacy agenda. It ensures Ugandan products are available at our diplomatic events, opening doors for deeper trade engagement and potential export opportunities,” said Bagiire. “This initiative supports the government’s 10-fold growth strategy, which focuses on Agro-industrialization, Tourism Promotion, Mineral Development, and Science and Technology transfer.”

As part of the deal, the Ministry will facilitate product exposure among key stakeholders and provide investment information to potential importers of UBL products.
